Just eight days before inauguration, Ahmadinejad’s cabinet becomes illegal and requires a parliamentary vote of confidence to continue working.

During the past few days, Ahmadinejad has been unexpectedly replacing cabinet members.  According to Fars News Agency, Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran, resigned today bringing the number of changes in the cabinet to more than 50% of the members.  According to article 136 of Iran’s Constitution, if more than half of the ministers change, the government is required to seek a fresh vote of confidence from the parliament.

Update: According to Fars News Agency, Ahmadinejad refused to accept Harandi’s resignation in order to avoid having to seek a vote of confidence.

Seems like an excellent plan to let Khamenei Shah save face and extend the life of the clerical monarchy.

  3. What happens if Ahmadinejad doesn’t receive a vote of confidence? Would he still become president as planned, but have to change his cabinet, or what?

  4. jinnderella says:

i think Nejad is going to be the scapegoat, and get loaded up with Khamenei’s sins and run out of town.
a graceful climbdown for the regime.
the question i have, is does Rafi have enough support to force the islamic council option?

This is total B.S. Harandi didn’t resign, he was fired by Ahmadinejad then brought back in once the idiot realized he was going to have to be reviewed under his own country’s constitution. I feel bad for all the Iranians who didn’t vote for this tyrant
