This is a video that was recorded today at Vanak Sq. The chant is “Esteqlal, Azadi, Jomhurie Irani’. Translated the chant is a request for “Independence, freedom, and Iranian republic.“ This chant is different from the popular chant during Ayatollah Khomeini’s era in which people demanded “Independence, freedom and Islamic republic.”

Actually, I read somewhere (and it sounds to me) like they’re chanting: “Esteghlal! Azadi! Jomhoori-e-IRANI”
Replacing the “Jomhouri-e-Eslami” (Islamic Republic) of the Khomeini-era chant with “Jomhouri-e-Irani” (Iranian Republic). Others have noted, and I agree, that this is a significant development and an indication that the street movement is growing more radicalized in its demands.
Excatly they were chanting: “Esteqlal, Azadi, Jomhuri Irani”: “Independence, Freedom, Iranian Republic”.A spin-off of the 1979 “Independence, Freedom, Islamic Republic”
Yes, they are chanting “Esteqlal, Azadi, Jomhuri Irani”: “Independence, Freedom, Iranian Republic”.
Please correct the post, as the main argument of this post does not apply to this video…
